Monaco Surround Sound

I am hoping that someone with some knowledge of how the Monaco (Safari) factory option surround sound in a 2006 model year (I believe it is an RCA) is wired to the speakers or how it works can help me out. I am trying to help my Dad who is down south for the winter with their 2006 Safari Simba that has the factory installed surround sound DVD/VCR and the speakers in the ceiling. I should add that my parents are not that good with electronics like this but I cannot figure out over the phone with them why they are not getting sound through the speakers. When they put a DVD in the video part works fine and they get the picture on the TV, however there is no sound. When talking to them on the phone I had them try several things like switching to the FM tuner and still no sound. Also made sure mute off and volume up. They used it last year and it worked fine, but since they pulled out of storage and left MN in December..doesn't work. I am told that the three wires (yellow, white, and Red) are plugged in on the back of the unit. Was not sure if there should be more or if the white and yellow (audio) somehow feed all the speakers. I guess my question is, is there something obvious that I am missing like some "cut-off" for the speakers on these Monaco surround systems? Something that would make all the surround speakers not work or maybe some setting on the unit itself that I have not thought of? Any thoughts installed.

RE: Brass trim rings around light fixtures

My guess is that these would be a direct replacement at $4.30 and come in three different colors (brass, white, and nickel). http://www.monaco-online.com/store/storeframe.html Then go to "Coach Parts & Accesories"...then "Lights and Bulbs"...find "trim rings"...

RE: Entry Door Stop

Have not had any major problem with mine rubbing the screen door or anything like that, but it did get loose when in the open position. I just went up there (without taking it off) and was able to very slightly bend the joint so the indents in the metal fit more tightly when open. Seemed to work very good all last summer after I did that.

RE: (Grey) Cummins Engine

My 2003 Cummins 300 ISB is all Grey..no red. I was also surprised the first time I looked at it. My Father in Law has a 2005 Kountry Star DP with a ISB 300 and it is also Grey..no red.

RE: Monaco Early Radiator Failure Casues?

I have the exact same problem that started about a year ago and is gradually getting worse. I was able to nurse it through the summer by adding a little here and there, but now I need to get the radiator replaced. Mine also is leaking where the tubes attach to the side tanks. I asked Monaco about getting any type of break on the cost of replacement knowing I was out of warranty. They quoted me $3,400 for a replacement Aluminum radiator without shipping. I need to keep looking for options but I don't know where else to go to get a perfect fit replacement. Now I am thinking about going the same route that mscamping did and go with copper/steel. Reading these posts make me nervous that it will happen again down the road in a couple years. Someone I talked to thought it may be caused by the way the radiator is mounted and it is being flexed and breaking the welds at the seams.

RE: Koni Shocks

I have a HR Neptune (same as Cayman) and I didn't want to wait for the FSD's when I ordered about two years ago. I am running with 4 of the adjustable Koni's and love them. Made a big difference on this unit over the stock Monroe shocks. I even adjusted the fronts a little stiffer at the beginning of the season this year and they worked well. I ordered from Koni's web site at the time and thougth they were reasonably priced.

RE: When have you Checked your Ride height?

Checked mine at the beginning of the 08 camping season for the first time since new. I only checked it because it caught my eye one day on a level street with it running that the front looked a little high. It ended up being a couple inches too high on the front. I'm thinking it happened when the front axle recall was done just after we bought it. It was very very easy to check and adjust. Monaco gives good detailed directions on checking and adjusting. The ride was considerably smoother on small jarring bumps...

RE: ANT/AUX/VCR Switch Box???

You may have already checked all this but I will throw it out there anyway... Have you check to make sure the cable lines on the back were tight. Sometimes if they are not tight, but still screwed on, you can get a bad contact until you push the button a few times and that jiggles the unite enough to change the connection of the cable. I had that once and when I snugged them all with a wrench, the problems went away.

RE: CB Radio

I have never really had any problems with foul language or chit chat bothering me. I use mine all the time (or at least have it on all the time) but I keep the adjustment so that it only picks up shorter range signals closer to me. The reason being that I have received calls on the CB before that something was not right on my boat trailer and stuff like that (strap loose, etc). I also use it frequently to talk with our traveling partners on a "non designated" channel (convenient way to communicate and they work better than two way radios (at least the ones I have). Oh, I have also used the weather feature on it and it worked pretty well actually.

RE: air brake drain/dump

On my 2003 Neptune (same as Cayman) the brakes are air assisted but hydraulic. It was my understanding that not all the 2003's had the air assist and they did away with that in the later models around 04-05 until they came out with full air brakes in I believe around 2006. Because they are air assisted, it sounds like air brakes when you push the pedal and release. Also the parking brake is set by a spring brake on the drive shaft that is released by air pressure. (Same type of spring brake normally found at the wheels on full air brake chassis). That is why you cannot release the brake until you air up the system. The tank sits between the rails behind the front generator and has one valve used for draining the tank.

RE: Awning light dimmer

I bought those globe lights at Camping World 5-years ago and put 25 watt bulbs in them. Even with 25 watt bulbs, they are extremely bright at night. At that time I got a dimmer at WalMart that you can just plug them into and plug the dimmer cord into the outlet. It has worked awesome for the last five years as I like to dim them WAY down to just a glow.

RE: Best gel coat polish and protector?

I have tried various waxes in the past on my last RV and my fiberglass boat. The very best I have found..by far, is made by StarBrite and is made specifically for gel coat boats. It is called StarBrite Marine Polish with Teflon. It is rather expensive at about $15 a bottle, but works extremely well. My 5 year old Gel Coat RV sits outside year round and the Gel Coat has not deteriorated at all and I apply this stuff once a year. In fact it is just as shiny and smooth as it was when new. I do however use a "wash and wax" soap when washing about every other week during the summer.

RE: P-30 TH400/425

My parents 1983 Apollo had a complete fail last spring. We had to pull it and do a complete rebuild, which wasn't so bad to get out and back in. Has an external cooler that I believe was installed by Apollo or Chevy back in 83. He often towed a 3,500 pound boat. Failed at 100,000 miles.

RE: Onan 7500 generator?

yes, it is located in the access door at the bottom that you use for changing oil filter also. I just put a new fuel filter in this year and it was very easy to change. My 7500 Onan does not slide out the front so I just crawled under like I do for oil changes and removed the two fuel lines. put the new filter in and put the lines back on. Then I primed the fuel by holding the start button in the "off" position. This runs the fuel pump to prime it. Started right up again. Very easy for a "do it yourself" job

RE: DP 300 hp temp

My 2003 Monaco product (Holiday Rambler) with a 300 ISB has run with the gauge indicating 200-205 since brand new. The good thing is that it doesn't really move when climbing hills or coasting down the hill.

Check Your Ride Hieght??

I have had my DP for almost 5 years now and after our trip touring the Great lakes in June of this year, I was looking at some pictures my wife took of the RV while she was following me in a rental car. It appeared to me that the front seemed to ride a little high. Not real noticeable when standing close to it and never noticed it when camping as I always dump the air. I quickly dug through some past pics and sure enough it looked a little high in the front in some of the pics. I went to Monaco's website and looked under the "tech" section and there was info about checking and adjusting ride height. I got it aired up on level ground and found the front to be over 1-1/4 inches too high between the bag plates (measuring in the center of the plates as described in the instructions. I proceeded to make the adjustment and rechecked twice by dumping and airing up. Got it perfect according to the specs on the website. I have had it out on a few trips since then and the harshness of the bumps have diminished greatly! When I first got it I thought it rode a little rough but handled good. I switched out the monroes for Koni shocks a couple years ago and that was a great improvement on the small jarring bumps. Now with the proper ride height, it rides really well for a 4 bag chassis. I suspect it got out of adjustment when my dealer did the recall work on the front axle when I first bought it. Just never thought to check it before now and didn't notice it until I really looked hard at the pictures of it aired up on a flat road. I can't believe how easy it was to check and adjust. Something you might want to look into if you have a rougher ride in your DP.

RE: What is the best toy of gadjet you have or added to your MH

Added lots of things over the years, but these are some of my favorites: -Hadley Ambassador Air Horns on Roof -Garmin GPS -Subwoofer for in-dash Stereo -New Shower Head -Driving Lights (fog lights) -Side Camera (hooked to back up monitor) -Outside 15 inch LCD TV on a swing arm in storage compartment Favorite Toys: - EZ Level (the thing with the lights on it and helps me know when I am level) - RV Quick Shades ( I just got these sent to me last week. I seen them at the FMCA Rally in St Paul and they looked interesting but they didn't have my size in Black at the show. They attach to the inside of the front windshield with suction cups and provide privacy and keep the sun out while still being able to see out through the window. Used them once last weekend and love these things!!)

RE: Furniture Covers

I needed to cover my couch as well due to having a dog, and I was tired of using loose blankets. I bought one last year from Camping World that fit perfectly and does not have are rest covers attached. It was a little pricey at something like $30. The only thing is last time I was in the store at CW, they didn't seem to have them, but maybe they do online still.

RE: Neptune

Correct answer above...Just turn the headlight switch to the left until it clicks on...just like older vehicles with the "pull out" headligt switches.

RE: Wondering about WanderLodge

Looked at it today....Both the wife and I really liked the interior and thought it looked great inside and out. The only thing that would have to be changed is the couches in back in place of a queen or king bed. Otherwise we thought it was very nice.
